Belinda's Gardening Classes June 23, 2012

Belinda Collins will be hosting a free Raised Bed Gardening Class on Saturday June 23, from 10:30 until noon at her home 4265 ll road, Fayette, MI. She will give on site gardening tips and techniques using raised beds. Belinda will also share information on Growing Garlic from 12:30-2pm. She will teach how to plant, grow, and harvest garlic. Please register for one or both events by calling Belinda at 906-644-2022. If attending both events, bring a brown bag lunch and eat in the garden between classes.

GARDEN GALLERY SPRING OPEN HOUSE Thursday May 24, 5-8pm

On Thursday May 24, 2012 the Garden Gallery will hold their open house from 5-8pm offering desserts and door prizes. There is a fundraising dinner sponsored by the Big Bay de Noc Cheerleaders at 4-7pm in the Garden Community Center starting at 4pm until 7pm. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, rolls, garlic bread and beverage for $6.00. Come and enjoy a fun evening and see all the wonderful arts and crafts on sale in the Gallery. Be sure to buy your quilt tickets for the amazing quilt being raffled off by the Village Artisans displayed in the Gallery.

Ruth Craig's Report on Garden Gourmet:

Congratulations, great cooks, for welcoming in Spring with such a delicious supper Thursday, April 26th! Though our group was a bit smaller than usual, all those who came had a wonderful time. Our Spring-Summer schedule will vary from the rest of the year. On May 24 we welcome everyone to attend the Community and Gallery Open House rather than a gourmet gathering. I hope to see you there!

Our Comfort Food evening on March 22 was indeed comforting and most delicious thanks to all of you who brought such wonderful dishes to share. It's been especially nice having some new faces in the group with friends and visiting relatives joining in.

Our June gathering will not be on the fourth Thursday, as that falls too close to our community Independence Day celebration on June 30. We're hoping to have it earlier in the month.

Gordy Lownds and Steve Uecke have, once again, volunteered to demonstrate a fish boil/fish fry dinner, which was so popular a few years ago. And Pat Rasmussen suggested that we come to her beach for a demonstration on campfire cooking this summer. We would bring any needed supplies and some side dishes (hopefully using our marvelous locally grown foods) to these gatherings. Our dates for these two events will be scheduled to fit into their calendars. As soon as I know, I will pass the word along. Thanks for being part of the Garden Gourmets....each one of you makes our gatherings special and nice for the others.

Clarinet Concert with Tricia Lemire

On Sunday, April 15th, Tricia Lemire will perform a clarinet concert in St. John's Hall at 1-2pm following the American Legion Breakfast. Come support Jackie and Donny Zehren's granddaughter in her fund-raising effort! Tricia has been selected to be a part of the Lions all-State Band when it tours in South Korea in June. A free-will offering will be accepted for Tricia's fundraiser. There will be a finger-dessert buffet at the Hall. Come enjoy dessert after the American Legion Breakfast and listen to the concert!

February Events

Our Painting Group will again meet at the back room of the Village Artisans beginning February 1^st. We would love to have anyone interested come and join them. They will meet at noon on Wednesdays. Plenty of paints, brushes, and boards are available at no cost and there are easels to use.

The Garden Gourmet will meet on February 23^rd at St. Johns Hall at 5-7pm. The theme is “Food Dear-to-Your Heart. This could mean foods that are healthy and good for your heart or just any of your favorite food! Anyone want to volunteer for a food demonstration?

The Adventures in Reading Program begins Saturday Feb. 4^th . Call Ruth Craig for further details or to volunteer at 644-3534.

The Adventures In Reading Program:

What: Story time, activities and refreshments

Who: For children pre-school through 3rd Grade

Where: Big Bay de Noc School Library

When: Saturday, February 4, February 11, February 25 and March 5.

Time: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Cost: Free!

We will begin with several read-aloud books, have fun activities based on the books' themes, and serve light refreshments. Although advertised for pre-school to 3^rd grade, all ages are welcome. We appreciate an adult remaining with the younger children. Our last Saturday, March 3 will feature a local author of children's books!

The time has come for our annual membership drive. Our first annual Village Artisans membership drive was in 2009. In these last three years we have appreciated your continued support! Your support helps keep our programs going, our doors open, and the newsletter published! As a member, you are a non-voting member of the organization, with a right to be informed of all corporate activities, a right to participate in all activities, and receive a newsletter. If you are a life time member or you have already paid your 2012 annual membership dues, you can help us in this membership drive by recruiting a new member . Membership dues are $20.00 per person for the calendar year January 1 thru December 31st. Lifetime membership is $150.00. Send membership to Village Artisans, P.O. 81, Garden, MI 49835. Silent Auction

Our Silent Auction on Saturday December 10 at 6:30 at the Village Artisans was a huge sucess. Food, drinks, and live music were provided. We want to thank all the volunteers and those who donated items for the auction. There were 62 items donated to be auctioned off. On the left of this page click on the page... picture gallery/silent auction...to see the few pictures that were taken just before the event started. Once the auction got started, few pictures got taken since we all got caught up in the bidding, food, and the wonderful live music.

Garden Gourmets-Thursday December 8

The Village Artisans's Garden Gourmets will meet at St. John's Hall on December 8 from 5-7pm. Tanna Leckson will be demonstrating making apple strudel. There will be cooking tips, recipes and tasting of Christmas Favorite Foods. If you have a favorite Christmas dish or recipe, bring it to share. If not, come anyway and enjoy the cooking, great food and company. There is no cost, however free will donations are excepted to pay for the use of the hall.

Holiday Greens & Centerpiece Sale

Shop at the Village Artisans Sale on December 3 from 10am to 3pm for your holiday greens in the front room of the Village Artisans Building since the Garden Gallery is closed for the season. Cash and check only. The Village Artisans will also have the arts and crafts on display for their December 10 Silent Auction. You will be able to bid on the items on December 3rd. Village Artisan Members can come to the workshop to make the greens on the Friday before the sale. Call Ruth Craig, 644-3534 for information.

Silent Art Auction Fundraiser

The Garden Gallery in Garden will be the setting for a fund-raising Art Auction on Saturday December 10 to benefit the Village Artisans and their enrichment programs for the community. Local and regional artists and craftspersons will be donating one-of-a-kind items specially created for this first ever art auction. Items for bid will be on display on Dec. 3rd during the Village Artisans Christmas Greens Sale. The items can also be seen on this website by clicking onto the picture gallery page. The auction takes place at 6:30pm on Dec. 10 and will include music, finger foods and drink as well as browsing time. Come join the fun!!
